We use Litmus for both testing across platforms and building personalized experiences for our email campaigns.
  • Testing across platforms - you can see if your email is displaying properly across a number of devices and email clients, which can help you troubleshoot issues and ensure your emails always look good to every recipient.
  • The Litmus Personalize builder has a lot of cool features and allows you to add interactivity into otherwise static emails.
  • Communication in terms of responding to questions and helping resolve issues, especially with the Personalize tool.
  • The Litmus Personalize builder is easy to use when setting up experiences, but can be difficult to implement where it looks good across all devices. This can end up making a "quick integration" time consuming as you troubleshoot.
  • It would be great to see how subject lines display for all devices
  • A tool to see how emojis display across devices
We love Litmus for testing and loved the idea of Litmus Personalize, but so far have only been able to build a couple of experiences due to the learning curve. We'd always recommend it for testing, though.

We use Litmus to ensure that our emails render properly across all mailbox providers, mobile and tablet devices, and desktop screens. With that, we are able to easily edit the HTML if the email needs an edit or two. Additionally, it is very helpful to see how subject lines and preheader texts render on each mobile device and app. It's so helpful to be able to see all views in one spot.
  • View, edit, and assure HTML is rendering properly.
  • Test subject lines and preheader texts.
  • An abundance of online resources.
  • The online navigation is not as straightforward as I'd personally like. Even though I've used Litmus to test subject lines and preheader texts, I often times forget how to navigate to that part of the website. I.e., It's not straightforward.
It is nice to be able to double-check the HTML code easily. However, that being said, once we have the template structure and modules coded and rendered, we often do not feel that Litmus is as helpful because we have already verified that the HTML is functioning as intended.

Amending existing html templates
  • Nice layout easy proof/comments/sharing feature easy code editing
  • No auto-save - always forget to press save after every edit bugs if open in more than one tab - shows an old version (very confusing) subject line and pre-header aren't correct in proof mode
Great for editing existing templates - can't speak to building from scratch inside of Litmus. Version control would be a great add.

Litmus addresses the quirkiness of email coding. As a developer, I am able to make certain designs work in code and test them through Litmus to ensure the end product is great for the final user.
  • -Email preview testing (I wouldn't feel comfortable without being able to test my emails in one spot in multiple email clients)
  • -Excited to try out the new personalization options as well as countdown timers (I'm really looking forward to these new features. They seem very intuitive and simple to implement into our current emails)
  • -Tracking data from specific emails (The information Litmus has provided as far as dark mode and email client usage is really going to help focus our marketing efforts in a specific direction to reach the greatest number of users.)
  • -Litmus Live is fantastic!
  • -The builder function is great as it allows me to test new lines of code in real-time, but there seem to be a few bugs with The builder. When my team has used it in The past, we have become more frustrated with it.
  • -I wonder if it would be possible to adjust The tracking to be specific but also general. At this point, I have had to create individual tracking codes per each individual Email I want to send. When we are sending out a large number each week, this can be cumbersome. So, I wonder if there would be a way to have a generic tracking code that could go in each Email but be specific once we upload The file into Litmus.
  • -On tracking, can we get averages for a group of emails instead of just all the emails?
Litmus is great at testing emails in different clients, tracking opens, clicks, and dark mode usage, and helping us make changes to our emails from the builder. It would be nice to be able to see .gifs or timers work in the email previews.

CHICMI used Litmus to test campaign and transactional emails across all mail clients and browsers, and as a result identified layout issues with some of our core email elements in the older Microsoft mail clients. The Litmus user interface is simple to use and the real device screenshots make testing so much easier than doing it manually.<br><br>The Litmus pricing model is fine and good value for money, but as a bootstrapped startup, instead of subscribing for a long period of time we find ourselves doing an annual email review, using Litmus for a month or two and then cancelling again. If you're not careful you can easily find yourself paying for a subscription you're not using regularly.

We use Litmus regularly to QA our emails. Whereas some ESPs have email client rendering proofing built within their platform, I've found it typically doesn't compare to the quality and interface of the Litmus renderings. In a few minutes I can check to make sure the email is appearing how it should across all major clients in addition to checking other key sections such as subject line/preheaders as well as links and UTMs.
  • Client Rendering
  • Code Fixes
  • QA links and UTMs
  • Sometimes clients take a while to load
  • Sometimes client rendering for specific providers is down
I have found Litmus to be an essential product within email marketing in order to perform thorough and accurate QA across deliverables. It would be hard for me to feel confident about any deployments that haven't been sent through Litmus at this point in my career. I haven't taken advantage of some of the advanced features such as tracking so I can't speak to how the platform performs in those terms.

Litmus has optimized our email QA process and added true visibility for all key stakeholders into the email review and approval process,. It gives us the insights we need to create more effective and faster emails.
  • Option to choose the clients with which we want to preview our email
  • Update the code in the builder
  • SPAM filter info and Subject Line evaluations is also very helpful
  • I've not seen any issues with Litmus so far. It has always worked as I expected it to work.
Litmus is well suited for rendering test across devices also really helpful for spam testing.

We use Litmus in various ways. The most common business value is within the Previews and QA section where we can see how our emails render across various devices, clients, browsers, and versions within each. Litmus provides this view in a single dashboard with the ability to zoom into each rendering. Litmus also provides insights into the functionality of each link (and what might be broken). Also available is feedback on the subject line, from name, reply to, and preview text. There are also insights on accessibility and suggestions for where those can be improved. Along with this are visual impairment filters which provide renderings on how the email appears for readers with various sight impairments. Litmus also provides what the email looks like if images are turned off along with the text-only version. Two other key areas of feedback are load time and spam testing.

Although not as frequent, we do sometimes have a need to quickly build new emails and analyze how they render, and for this we use the Builder functionality within Litmus. Our CRM platform fills this need most of the time, but using Builder is a way to quickly pull an email together and then copy/paste the code into our CRM platform.

Finally, another key area of value for our team is via the Litmus Analyze functionality. Although there is a little bit of setup involved, these analytics allow key insights into our email audience including the proportion using different email clients, browsers, devices; a generalized view of engagement (read time, skimms, etc.), and the proportion of the audience impacted by Apple MPP. What this analysis does not provide however is with identifying which specific audience members fall into that MPP bucket, which would allow us to segment email engagement reporting more precisely.
  • Extent of email renderings
  • Analysis of audience composition by device, browser, etc. and engagement
  • Blog articles and help documentation
  • Spam and link analysis
  • More CRM platform integrations, esp. for Builder HTML and analytics
Litmus is a great multi-purpose tool for building, testing, and analyzing emails and audiences. This is especially the case when using an email platform with limited functionality.

For businesses with enterprise email platforms and those with integrated rendering engines, Litmus acts more like a second check but may not be worth the investment depending on added cost.

Litmus assists us with testing, editing and collaborating email development. Prior to purchasing Litmus we were using Word/XLS docs to highlight edits needed for emails. As an intermediate between brand partners and the developers the Marketing Delivery team was wresting with multiple, individual processes to approve emails. Litmus unified this process in the easiest way possible. "Non Technical" team members were able to pick up the intuitive Proof interface quickly, making training a short call. Also the frictionless registration process for Reviewers makes onboarding easy. The Preview and QA area is a valuable source of feedback for any marketer as it shows exactly how your email renders in multiple email clients as well as advise on subject/preview line viability and link checking. The best part is the Spam Testing function, which provides an exhaustive series of reports on how your email may fall into spam traps and junk folders. Litmus is the best!
  • Email proof collaboration
  • Spam Testing
  • Version control
  • Email client rendering
  • Link checking
  • I wish the email lists were "sticky" when inside folders: I have to click on "display 100" emails to see all my versions and when I go back, I have to click on the display option again.
  • The Spam Test email list would be great as a importable data extension
  • It would be great to see a single email display multiple versions based on the personalization/dynamic content coded into it. One Proof for a dynamic email but the different versions of content could expand out.
Litmus is perfect for marketers that need multiple points of approval. The speed at which you can collaborate is the most valuable. We're able to take Beta resolutions from 5 business days down to 2. We've not used Builder much as we use 3rd party developers to create our emails and syncing back to our ESP isn't possible but we do use it to inspect and locate bugs in the code and report back to the developers.

We started using Litmus with our email marketing company. We needed a better way for them to present emails to us and to be able to provide feedback to make changes easily. Now with Litmus, they create our emails and upload them. Then I provide feedback for them to make changes and reupload for approval. Litmus allows us to be on the same page more often than we were before. I am very pleased with how it has increased our efficiency.
  • Allows for feedback to be seen directly on the platform.
  • The approval button allows all parties to know when a final form is complete.
  • Tagging all parties in the feedback allows everyone to be involved.
  • When I open up an email for review if the title is too long I have no way of knowing what it is.
  • I wish I could see all of the prior versions our partners have made, but I only see the latest one.
  • I wish our multiple projects could be linked together better.
For our email approvals, Litmus is well suited for our email marketing company to be able to load in the proofs. It is also well suited for feedback to be left, except for being able to add subject lines and preheaders since it won't allow for emojis. Permitting the use of emojis in the feedback text boxes would allow me the flexibility to provide them within subject lines for our emails.

We use Litmus to QA our emails. We use it to make sure our emails look great across devices. I like how many devices it includes. It's very helpful. We also used to use it to check subject line placement within inboxes, but that feature has recently been deprecated, unfortunately.
  • Showing emails across devices and email service providers
  • Making it easy to send emails into the tool
  • Quickly rendering tests
  • More devices/ISPs
  • Subject line inbox rendering
  • Inbox placement prediction
Litmus is great for QA your emails, specifically with how your email will look across devices and email inboxes. You can see Gmail on Android, Apple mail on iOS, iOS tablet view, and more. You can zoom into any given email to see how it looks specifically, or you could look across thumbnails to quickly see if anything is obviously out of whack.

We use it to test localized ongoing worldwide marketing campaigns out in various email clients and platform combinations. As each language varies in length and email apps change constantly, it helps decrease potential layout issues and display bugs. We also use it to increase deliverability and open rates by testing subject lines, pre-header text and spam filters.
  • Email client previews
  • Code analysis, flags mistakes
  • Flags potential email deliverability issues
  • Their built-in email templates may not always be up-to-date
  • Some email client previews tend to lag more than others
  • Adding analytics and spam testing can be a long process if your account isn't enterprise level
Litmus is great for testing new email templates and layouts and troubleshooting issues with certain email clients (mostly Microsoft Outlook for Windows in our case). It has saved so much time troubleshooting Outlook quirks over the years. I can't think of a reason not to try it as an email marketer/developer.

I use Litmus primarily to render check Email Marketing Campaigns. I sometimes use it for spam testing and deliverability analysis.
  • Litmus provides very accurate screenshots of email renderings across a wide range of devices
  • Litmus provides helpful tips for improving subject line content
  • Litmus has a multitude of blog articles that are helpful in designing or troubleshooting effective marketing emails.
  • The Microsoft Outlook for iPhone render test is usually not accurate. It shows the email to be broken or misaligned when it actually renders perfectly when tested on a real device.
  • The latest or most current versions of devices or email clients are not always available.
It is well suited for testing MS Outlook and Gmail (desktop and mobile app), and pretty much all Apple and browser-based email clients. The only scenario I don't find appropriate is testing MS Outlook mobile. I have found it to be helpful, but sometimes unreliable for testing emojis in subject lines. Some emojis appear to be non-supported by certain email clients when tested on Litmus. However, they showed up fine on those clients when checked on a real device.

Our team uses Litmus on a near-daily basis. We use the service primarily to test the rendering of each of our emails across a number of clients. Additionally, our organization is associated with a higher education institution so we care deeply about accessibility and utilize Litmus to remain as accessible as possible.
  • Email Render Testing
  • Email Coding
  • Accessibility Compliance
  • Subject Line Testing
  • High-Level Email Engagement Analysis
  • Enterprise License Cost
  • Task List Functionality
  • Email Building 101 Type Course
Litmus is very well suited for email render testing. Specifically, you can send multiple versions of an email as you make updates and render those new updates. If you're building a new template then Litmus can help suggest any corrections to your code that may fix any render issues. If your subscriber base is spread across multiple clients then Litmus can help you really focus on the clients that your subscribers use.

We use Salesforce Marketing Cloud for the building and deployment of email campaigns. Earlier we were testing emails manually which was taking hours to review them and also, we were not sure how our email will show up in the customer's mailbox as all customers use different email clients. But then there came Litmus in our project - Our Time Saver!! We use Litmus to test our emails if the subject line and preheader are correct, the email is using the correct header and footer, all images render correctly, ALT text is set and does not include any spelling/grammatical errors, and all dynamic elements are functioning properly, and email is rendering correctly on every email client. It really helped us to minimize our QA time.
  • It gives a preview of every email client accurately, which helps us to remove any errors present for any specific client.
  • Every person is able to access our email because we test with Litmus which gives missing alt texts, missing table roles so that the screen reader can interpret it as a table, and structure navigation of the entire email.
  • Gives way to provide review comments and can be marked as resolved after solving them.
  • Can create multiple versions for same email in same folder.
  • I think we cannot check the interactivity of emails in litmus.
  • There should be strong spam filters for marking it spam if any part of the email makes it unsolicited.
Well suited to test emails deeply gives the clear idea on various issues present in our emails. Pricing and subscription could be better for long-term users.

I use Litmus to check our email creative, make sure the email is displaying correctly on all the email clients. If it is not, we will use the HTMl edit inside Litmus to check if there is some code that is not closed right or what happens between the send to receive.
  • Easy to review on all different email clients, just one click
  • Lot of hack on different issues we run into when coding email
  • Able to check the code when there issues show up on the preview
  • Outlook support, not just a screenshot, but something able to click on and check the code
  • Red flag when email not show up correctly
  • More easy to test subject line
Well suited scenarios will be our best testing for email creative. It is very easy to use to do testing as welling as easy to check on the code when there is problem. For the less appropriate will be the summary and proof tab, we are not using them as review between our team, we will just copy and paste the link and share.

We test our marketing emails in Litmus to see how they render in multiple desktops, mobile, and web-based email clients. Additionally, we look at feedback from Litmus regarding our subject lines, accessibility, link integrity, loading speed, and spam testing.
  • Email client previews
  • Link integrity
  • Email industry best practices
  • Emoji use in subject lines: recent test in Litmus didn't show any issues, but in an A/B, I noticed lower deliverability with the version that used an emoji.
  • Litmus says links to my company's LinkedIn and Instagram accounts always say they're broken, but I've never been able to prove this in actual emails.
Litmus is extremely well-suited when you want to preview an email to multiple clients to see if there are issues. This is important not just when developing new templates but also when you have content outside the norm. In terms of less appropriate, Litmus does a decent job of spam traps, though it may not catch all deliverability issues (it's always good to continuously A/B test your audience to learn what works best.)

We use Litmus to Q/A all of the emails that go out to our global audience (over 200,000 contacts). We make sure the design looks good across all devices/clients, and that there are no other flags (email size, subject line/preheader wording concerns) that would cause the email performance to be in jeopardy. It is part of our process to check every email in Litmus.
  • it simplifies and speeds up testing my content - the email previews are quick and easy to evaluate
  • The accessibility/link validation is also super helpful! The ALT tag reminder is especially helpful
  • The loading speed feature is great too! We like to report this back to other email creators when we see their emails taking a while to load.
  • Customer support is speedy but also we've had a hard time finding resolutions. Logging into Litmus within our email tool and on the website is not seamless, and we've never gotten a good answer as to why.
  • The price point is high for small businesses, I would hope they could offer something more cost flexible for those.
It's well suited for companies with a large audience, that sends out an abundance of emails with a lot of manual touching of the design. Also if there are many email creators in the company. The tool provides a quality control aspect that is virtually impossible if you were trying to do it manually. The email previews alone are invaluable.

We use Litmus to test emails on various email clients, including testing for Light vs Dark mode more recently. Without this service, our emails would break across multiple email clients that we don't have access to for testing.
  • Testing Outlook vs Gmail vs Apple and on older software or versions
  • Testing light vs dark mode in the code
  • Easy-to-use code editor and previewer
  • Subject line testing capabilities to compare how well a subject line might perform.
Litmus is imperative to our email testing. Without Litmus, we would be resigned to test our emails on whatever devices, versions, and clients are available to us, which is fairly limited. We would also not be comfortable testing new and cutting-edge coding methods for emails, as we could not predict how they would perform across various clients.

Primarily used as a last check for how built emails are rendered across different devices and ISP's
  • Identifies broken/misaligned images in emails
  • Identifies HTML problems that aren't readily apparent in testing
  • Identifies spam flags
  • Email proofs can't be edited for analysis (eg, subject lines can't be evaluated properly when CRM includes test language)
  • Not all HTML issues are flagged accurately - sometimes emails look good in litmus but are flagged by recipients as broken
  • Additional information on errors, like a source code viewer to highlight HTML errors, would be helpful
Litmus is well suited as a final check before emails are deployed. Other tools in the platform are harder to use (like the email builder), and require additional users, driving up [the] cost

Litmus is a critical tool used by our Developer and Production teams for custom pixel tracking, reporting, and render testing and is leveraged across our service line for clients across industries and verticals. From initial HTML render testing, final HTML QA and email deployment reviews, Litmus is regularly used across technical teams in addition to resolving issues and questions raised by non-technical groups (internal and external).

We leverage custom tracking to enhance our data validation and to craft future-state stories around the impacts of iOS15 and the deprecation of 3rd Party Cookies. The testing environment is critical to our ability to develop and deploy more advanced HTML builds across ESPs and devices that otherwise would substantially slow our time to market.
  • Integration with SFMC! Testing available directly from Content Builder Preview&Test.
  • Analytics reporting to supplement existing results/data.
  • Test sharing internally and externally for stakeholder review.
  • Device tracking in Analytics.
  • HTML best-practice alerts to advise Creative teams for optimal end-user experience.
  • Errors in render engines do not always replicate true HTML rendering.
  • Custom type attributes in analytics reports do not track mobile devices consistently.
Litmus is the perfect supplemental tool to add into technical SOP for testing but as rendering issues present, your first troubleshooting step should be re-deploying HTML to test if inconsistent results are causing issues. For analytics, we leverage Litmus tracking for an additional data source for reporting that is not readily available through other platforms.

My teams are using litmus for HTML email review as part of their duties in the digital marketing organization. We have a third party email service provider that does the design and sending but use Litmus as the "single point of truth" for spam testing, inbox testing, design review (e.g. inbox testing in multiple clients). Moreover we use Litmus as the "final check" in the design portion to make sure that preview text, subject text, and other information will look good for the business. This tool allows us to see what the user sees and not just see what an external comms/marketing department sees.
  • Email inbox testing.
  • Spam testing.
  • Accessibility and preview testing.
  • Account limit previews can be low (number of previews).
  • Missing inbox testing for some European ESPs.
  • Does not integrate with all Marketing ESPs.
Litmus works well for HTML email reviews and should be part of every digital marketer's toolbox. Otherwise, you are flying blind. This can be a place where you design emails (which we do not do here) but mostly the value comes from the robust proofing options. If you are a SMB, then this is less important, but if you are a business that deals with a wide array of email clients - some old, some new, some international - then this is an important tool to use.

  • Syncing with more ESPs would make it easier to build emails in Litmus.
Other teams currently lack an equivalent tool to improve email performance. If they are looking for something to help reach inboxes more consistently, measure what email clients their audience is primarily using, and ensure email designs perform across the multitude of inboxes, I would strongly recommend Litmus.

We use Litmus for testing all our CRM emails, it helps us to identify all the specs that we need to improve in order to have functional emails with correct links, first impressions, tracking, etc.
We also use it to check how all emails are displayed in the main different email clients.
  • Spam testing is a great feature that helped the Marketing team building the emails.
  • Links and Tracking features really helped us to identify all of what was wrong with our email campaigns.
  • First Impressions feature helps to identify all those common issues writing emails like words that should not be used within the subject line, to review if your reply-to is correct or not and also allows you to check your subject line and preview text in many email clients.
  • It takes some time to load each email.
  • It's not that easy move from one email to another one.
If your company does Marketing campaigns and emails are a key piece for your business Litmus can help you through the process of creating, testing, reviewing and validating everything avoiding or reducing the odds that your email ends up in a spam folder, deleted, or simply unread.
If emails are only internal emails and are not business related, it probably isn't worth it to have this tool, but it will help you anyways.
